Retired from the 193rd Special Operations Wing November 2002 after 22 years, 8 months and 9 days. Not that I was counting. Loved every minute of it. You couldn’t ask to work with a better group of guys and gals.

One of my most memorable experiences was my first deployment to Germany in 1981. There I got to hear news broadcast to US troops from the former Soviet Union. It was the same news you heard from American Armed Forces Network Services (AFRTS) but with a Soviet slant. That is when it dawned on me how the news can be easily slanted by the use of descriptive words like “imperialist, capitalist etc.”  Just listen to the difference between MSNBC and FOX today and you will hear the same thing I heard in 1981. Hard to believe the same type people that hated America back then are now working in certain news networks in America today. OK, there is no hiding it. I’m a conservative :)

You can visit the 193rd Special Operations Wing Association website here. As part of the 193rd we participated in many conflicts, i.e. the invasion of Granada, Panama, Gulf War 1, Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan as well as many missions to South and Central America. Not to mention months of fun in the sun preparing to return Jean-Bertrand Aristide to power in Haiti.

    Mike,
was wondering if you were going to post a link to the Dept. of Veterans Affairs, or perhaps the link to the National VFW?
